Orientation

CTP is a vibrant research centre, funded by the UGC, carrying out research of international quality. It is widely recognized as an important research centre of India. The Centre currently focuses on Cosmology and High Energy Physics. The aim of the Centre is to be at the forefront of research, bringing together particle physicists, cosmologists and astrophysicists within a unique interdisciplinary culture.

Currently the faculty members are M. Sami (Gravitation, Cosmology), S.G. Ghosh (Gravitation), Sanjay Jhingan (Gravitation, Cosmology), Anjan Sen (Gravitation, Cosmology), Rathin Adhikari (Particle Physics) Tabish Qureshi (Quantum Mechanics, Entanglement), Vikram Soni (Neutron stars, Magnetars) and Naresh Dadhich (Classical & Quantum General Relativity, Braneworld Cosmologies, Wormholes).

There are currently 20 students pursuing their Ph.D. in CTP.
Eleven students, having submitted their Ph.D., left for post-doctoral research at various places including

  1. National Observatory, Brazil
  2. Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata
  3. Physical Reseach Laboratory, Ahmedabad
  4. Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune
  5. Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar

Students who are in a mature stage of Ph.D. have already made international visits to various research institutes, and have attended several national and international conferences, apart from publishing papers in quality international research journals.

  2. The courses at Sr. No. 1,2,3 (both semester) are also available for M.Phil. students / M.Sc. students
  3. The course at Sr. No. 1,2 & 3 (both semester) are designed to bridge the gap between M.Sc. courses at various universities and research.
